The Bank End Ramble links the historic port of Maryport to the Solway Coast following part the Cumbrian smugglers’ route.
The walk begins at the Maritime Museum in Maryport and is a distance of approximately three miles.
Using public roads and tracks, the route follows surfaced paths with some hill walking and quite a few steps (109 in one go).
At Bank End, it is said that a cave with a hidden tunnel, led smugglers inland but this has now been filled in to create the road.
You will pass other areas of interest including the Senhouse Roman museum on the settlement of Aluana.
