Cyclists looking to exercise their minds as well as their bodies may want to check out some exciting new cycle trails in the North West of England.
Taking in some of the region’s key historical landmarks, the trails may be just a short ride in terms of distance, but give cyclists the chance to travel back in time 200 years.
The routes have been launched by Modern History and developed with Sustrans.
The first route to launch is a ride between Manchester and Salford Quays.
Starting out at the People’s History Museum at Spinningfields, it takes in John Rylands Library and Museum of Science and Industry, before running by the River Irwell along the Irwell River Park to the Imperial War Museum North and ending at The Lowry.
As well as easy to follow instructions, the route gives tips on refreshment stops and visitor information about the venues.
Lisa Houghton at Modern History, comments: “The heritage cycle trails offer more than just a fun cycle ride, they offer some great days out and the chance for all the family to take in some real architectural gems from a different perspective. With many of the featured museums and attractions offering free entry, it’s also possible just to pop in and out of any of the exhibitions that capture their interest as they cycle by.”
