Weather and safety All outdoor guides and rescue services will advise that you check the weather before heading out on to the fells. Be prepared to cancel or alter your proposed route possibly keeping to a low level walk if the weather is expected to change.
- Take waterproofs and warm clothing along with your map, compass and whistle just incase you become lost, injured or disorientated on the fells and mountains.
- The weather can change very quickly and you should not take risks.
- Do not assume your cellphone will work.
- Leave a note with someone as to where you will be walking to and from. And what time you will be back. If your route changes – let someone know. Rescue services maybe searching in the wrong place for you if you get lost.
If in doubt about a walk or climb ask a local mountain guide, the Mountain Rescue or someone familiar with the area to advise.
