Walking from Ambleside sponsored by Polartec offers four different walks of varying difficulty, all starting from Ambleside;
Fairfield horseshoe
Probably the most famous of the classic Lake District’rounds’ linking together some fine high-level ridges and an ascent of Fairfeld itself.
Lily tarn and todd crag
A chance to savour the Lakeland landscape without a major expedition! Just to the west of Ambleside the hills form a long shoulder that extends towards the village from the side of Loughrigg Fell.
Scandale and red screes
An unexpectedly quiet and attractive route into the hills, direct from the hustle and bustle of Ambleside. A little less challenging yet still a fine mountain summit, Red Screes sits in a lofty position easily reached from Scandale Pass by a brisk ascent to the south east.
Wansfell pike
The triangle of fells between Ambleside and Troutbeck terminates at the diminutive summit of Wansfell Pike, surrounded by deep valleys and separated from its neighbouring peaks by considerable distance which allows stunning unrestricted views from the summit.
