Take a visit to the “Old Town”, the oldest area in Edinburgh, dating back to medieval times and lined with narrow alleyways and historical landmarks.
This one-hour walking tour begins at Lawnmarket and the bottom end of Castlehill, before continuing down to Grassmarket, the picturesque Victoria Street, Cockburn Street and back to the Royal Mile to High St.
It concludes outside the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Edinburgh Airport is served by flights from around 150 global destinations, but Scotland’s capital has excellent rail links, too.
If you’re travelling from London, the journey time is around four hours and 20 minutes. A direct route from Manchester takes around an hour less, while the journey from Glasgow can take just 50 minutes.
The city itself is very walkable, though the bus and tram networks are extensive – and wheelchair accessibility is excellent.
