The Histree project
The Isle of Wight Histree Trail Project ran from 2006-2009.
It was dedicated to finding and recording the Island’s special trees, collecting local stories and researching local heritage.
A series of eight trails were created to guide walkers around groups of trees in publicly accessible places.
The Legends and Landscapes Histree Trail
This is a trail that begins and ends at the Bull Ring in Brading Town Centre.
It features various historic trees at points around the walk. Discover the veteran Oaks of Nunwell, follow ancient boundaries and explore Bloodstone Copse.
It is a fairly easy walk, with mainly gentle inclines and descents, but there are some stiles and gates to negotiate.
The trail may also be muddy and uneven underfoot in places.
Walking festival
The Isle of Wight Walking Festival is one of the UK’s longest running walking festivals.
The Isle of Wight Walking Festival started in 1999 with 39 walks and around 5000 walkers.
It remains one of the UK’s biggest walking festivals, and allows participants to follow in the footsteps of everyone from Alfred Lord Tennyson to Jimi Hendrix.
Events take place in spring (May) and Autumn (October).
